The style for this falls into the ‘lagenlook’ category, which combines vintage or retro design elements (like the charming ‘cape collar’ that falls over and caps the shoulder, similar to a “Sherlock Holmes” overcoat) with avant garde innovations (for example the exposed seaming on the exterior of the coat).

Here are the design details of this remarkable coat in a nutshell:
The large cape collar is darted so that it falls neatly around and caresses your shoulders when you wear it. Sleeves are long and tapered so that they are more fitted at the wrist. The coat has a button front closure. Patched rectangles reinforce button slits and bottons are made of carved, incised coconut shell. Generously large patch pockets are the perfect hand warmers. They’re shaped with exterior seaming and darts. Overall form for this coat is oversized, with pleated darts at the back that are pulled in at the waist with buttons to create a pleasing feminine form. The coat balloons out softly at mid-calf and then curves back in slightly at the ankle.

Exterior seams and darts are exposed and unfinished in what’s known as ‘unconstructed’ style, often used in lagenlook design. It’s a good style to match up with fleece fabric, because the unfinished seams won’t unravel or deteriorate. The polar fleece fabric used for this series of coat is top quality and has a deliciously soft hand. It’s mid-weight to heavy, snuggly warm and the draping quality is smooth and flowing.
